The objective is to strengthen the cluster so that it can streamline itself with the country vision and in the meantime cluster would streamline its value chain so that enterprises of this cluster are more prepared to catch all opportunities.

Strategy will be to streamline backward and forward linkages so that enterprises are able to cater bulk export requirements of trade partners. This will be achieved through better networking, development at quarries and investment in new technologies for better processing. As investment will come in new technologies human resource development will also be done for optimal utilization.

The project is related to setting up Common Facility & Training Centers in all marble cities included in the PASDEC planned intervention in the sector. The document highlights all the marketing, management, and financial aspects required for the establishment and successful running of the project.

Major Focus Of The CFTC Is

1. Provision of training to the raw hand/semi skilled/skilled workers on state of the art machinery to build their capacities in producing exportable material

2. Supporting the industry in providing processes that are not available otherwise in the individual units.

Common FacilityTrainingCenter (CFTC), for marble & granite is aimed at capturing the value that the sector loses due to unavailability of a comprehensive training processing facility. It will demonstrate and provide training to existing processors, existing workers, and new would be entrants (workers and processors) on the use of up to date quality stone processing techniques and practices. The key objective is to impart upgraded and new vocational skills through the training that is provided so that Clusters can increase local incomes and create more jobs in the marble and granite sector which is the sectors’ key economic income earner. .

The Training Facilities In CFTC Would Have Two Major Components

1. Training in processing of stone to produce better quality products for all the current product lines such as tiles, and introduce new products based on new skills development and market demand.

2. Gender training in manufacturing of household handicrafts & mosaics, improving the quality of current products, and improving skills so that the local industry can effectively use upgraded technologies that enable an expansion of product lines.

In addition to the above-mentioned components, the CFTC will also train processors and workers to:

1. Check for the overall quality of the products and improve packaging for the market.

2. To develop improved Sales, Purchase & Services skills and to set up a CFTC demonstration Department to handle selling and purchasing of products manufactured at the CFTC and by those processors using its facilities.

3. Select and purchases stone waste and blocks for processing into handicrafts, mosaics and other products developed by the CFTC.

4. Increased direct and secondary job creation supporting poverty alleviation in the area.

5. Increased investment, production and higher wages as a result of higher demand and improved quality products.
